Computer Engineering (Bachelor)

The Bachelor's degree course in Computer Engineering will end in the summer semester 2016. Enrolment is therefore only possible for the last time for first-year students in summer semester 16.

Cars, MP3 players, navigation systems, heating and air conditioning systems, wind turbines, factories - all applications of modern information technology components. Computer science and information technology have become ubiquitous and support people in a wide variety of areas. A large proportion of today's innovations, whether in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, transport technology and logistics or environmental and energy technology, are based on developments in the field of information technology. Studying Computer Engineering therefore offers you exciting insights into the functioning of today's ubiquitous technical systems. As a graduate, you will be able to play an active role in shaping future developments in a wide variety of areas.

Job profile and labor market

An outstanding feature of training as an engineer in the field of computer engineering is the extremely diverse range of activities and development opportunities. Computer engineering implements the computer basis and organizes the exchange of information between people and/or machines. Areas of application and work for computer engineers with a Bachelor of Science degree can be found in data and communication technology, in the field of mechatronics, in automation technology, in traffic engineering and logistics for embedded systems or in the fields of environmental, energy and process engineering. Corresponding studies always attest to excellent prospects on the job market. The number of vacancies in the field of computer engineering and information technology regularly exceeds the number of applicants. In addition, the proportion of employees with a university degree in this field is constantly increasing.

The Bachelor's degree opens up interesting and promising fields of work in Germany and abroad. The majority of Bachelor's graduates in Computer Engineering work in the fields of development, production, commissioning, sales, marketing and service. With the right final grade, the Bachelor of Science opens the door to a Master's degree, which qualifies graduates for research and development and management positions.

Specialist focus

The technical focus is on system theory, hardware and software knowledge as well as application subjects, in which the implementation takes place in concrete solutions. The focus on automation technology and embedded systems corresponds to this application concept.
