The modern world is full of chemistry. Whether as chemical raw materials, polymers or medicines, whether in innovative energy storage systems or as the latest nanomaterials: chemistry is omnipresent. The Bachelor's degree course in Chemistry at Clausthal University of Technology provides students with the understanding and ability to help shape this exciting area of our lives. Chemistry at Clausthal is practice-oriented. We therefore not only teach the basic theories, but also impart experimental skills in many practical courses.
Chemistry is globally networked. That is why we teach with a new German-English teaching and learning concept and teach the English technical language competently and stress-free.
Job profile and labor market
Chemists have excellent career prospects as qualified natural scientists. In addition to the core area of the chemical industry, our graduates find employment in marketing, consulting and administration. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, which is recognized throughout Europe, lays the ideal foundations for a Master's degree in Chemistry or another advanced course of study in the fields of materials science, process engineering and life sciences.
In many cases, the Master of Science is followed by a doctorate, in which one's own creativity is challenged by demanding scientific research work.
Clausthal University of Technology recommends that its graduates take up a Master's degree course.
Occupational fields and areas of activity
- Laboratory work in the chemical industry

What makes the degree program in Clausthal special
The B.Sc. in Chemistry is a modern degree course with a high level of practical relevance in terms of the fundamentals taught and the subject-specific skills. It impresses with its good support situation, which has been confirmed in many rankings, be it in lectures, tutorials or internships.
A wide range of advice and flexibility enables students to study even in special life situations, such as parental leave, care or employment. The course can be studied part-time.
The course is internationally oriented: After the first, purely German-language academic year, courses are increasingly held in English. This means that the English language is taught without any extra hurdles. Examinations can be taken in both German and English.
Structure of the study program
The modular course begins with the basics of mathematics, physics and general chemistry. Subsequently, the chemical fundamentals are taught in the core subjects of inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry through lectures, exercises and practicals. This is followed by specialization in the three core subjects plus the Clausthal specialty of Technical Chemistry. An excursion, elective modules on chemical and materials science topics, as well as interdisciplinary qualifications (e.g. computer science or business administration) round off the study program.
The course concludes with a research internship and the scientifically oriented Bachelor's thesis.

Part-time study
The Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry can also be studied part-time. Further details on the requirements, structure and legal consequences of part-time studies can be found in the "Regulations governing part-time study (TzO)" of Clausthal University of Technology in the currently valid version.
Before applying for and taking up part-time studies, a consultation with the responsible part-time study coordinator is mandatory. During this consultation, the part-time study coordinator will agree on an individual study plan (learning agreement) for the part-time study program in consultation with the student.
