Structure of the study program

The first two semesters are all about mathematics, physics and chemistry - the basics you'll need later on. But don't worry, it's not just about dry theory! Right at the start of your Bachelor's degree, there is a "first semester project" where you can gain your first practical experience in the field of process engineering. In the third semester, you then have the opportunity to choose one of three fields of study: Apparatus and Plants, Chemistry or Environmental Technologies. You can specialize in a total of 24 credit points in these different areas. This means you can choose exactly the topics that interest you the most and that best suit your goals. From the 5th semester onwards, the most important process engineering subjects are on the program. Here you will deepen your knowledge and prepare yourself for practical work.

The course usually lasts 6 semesters. But before you graduate, an exciting industrial and laboratory internship awaits you. This allows you to apply your theoretical knowledge outside the university. You will also write a Bachelor's thesis, either at one of the institutes at Clausthal University of Technology or in collaboration with a company. This gives you the opportunity to prove yourself in a specific project and gain valuable experience.

Fields of study

Apparatus and systems

If you are interested in "mechanical engineering" topics, this course could be just right for you. You will gain in-depth insights into the following areas:

  • Apparatus engineering I
  • Apparatus elements
  • Component testing
  • Machine theory I

Chemistry major

Here you will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of inorganic, organic and, above all, physical chemistry. With this specialization, the following subjects will make you an expert in the field of chemistry:

  • General and inorganic chemistry II
  • Physical Chemistry I
  • Physical Chemistry II
  • Practical course in organic chemistry

Environmental Technologies field of study

If you are interested in environmental topics, this is the right place for you! On this degree course, you will be able to work intensively with chemistry and in particular the topics of wastewater, waste and recycling. The following subjects will help you:

  • Physical Chemistry I
  • Wastewater technology I
  • Fundamentals of waste treatment
  • Recycling I
  • Geological soil science and soil treatment

Industrial internship

You have the opportunity to complete an industrial internship before you even start your studies. The internship lasts a total of 8 weeks and you can use it to gain your first practical experience in industry. You will need proof of the internship you have completed by the time you start your Bachelor's thesis at the latest. The second part of the internship, which lasts a total of 12 weeks, is directly related to the content of your degree course. You can complete this specialist internship during the lecture-free periods and immerse yourself more deeply in industrial practice. The best thing is that you can choose your own industrial partner!
